Update from a Supporter of Operation PUSH

“As the prisoner from Operation PUSH mentioned last month it is up to us on the outside to shine a light into the system and expose what’s happening. Since the beginning of Operation PUSH that light has been powerfully bright. Over 50 and Counting media Outlets have reported on Operation PUSH since began. And the number of significant stories have come out that did not directly refer to Operation PUSH but certainly provided context as to why prisoners in Florida feel so urgent about changing their circumstances. For example the Miami Herald reported that the death toll from incarceration over the past year is higher than ever before. And most of the deaths do not add up to any reasonable explanation. Many are young people and they can only be assumed at this point that their deaths are the result of negligence and abuse if not outright murder by racist prison guard thugs with KKK affiliations.

Likewise other stories have surfaced such as a roof caving in at the Lake Butler reception and medical facility injuring multiple prisoners. These occurrences are likely much more frequent than any of us hear about but with the increased interest in Florida prison conditions they are now making it into the headlines.

And perhaps most interesting is that we are hearing a very concerted effort to bribe prisoners with minor concessions in attempt to dissuade their involvement in movements like Operation PUSH. Many of these prisoners are people who have never been engaged in a social movement and may not have even heard of Operation PUSH until FDC brought it to their attention.

The truth is that much like us on the outside. FTC has really no idea the extent that this has spread.”
