Summer Internship Announcement

Kite Line Summer Intern Program

The weekly WFHB radio program Kite Line will hire two summer interns in 2017 for ten hours a week of editing and production work. Undergraduates and others encouraged to apply.

Qualifications include editing and technical skills, including Audacity and basic audio recording; radio experience unnecessary but a plus. Most work can be done remotely, but a successful applicant must be able to meet weekly deadlines and maintain communication with Bloomington-area Kite Line staff.

Kite Line is a radio program devoted to prison issues around the Midwest and beyond. Behind the prison walls, a message is called a kite: whispered words, a note passed hand to hand, or a request submitted to the guards for medical care. Illicit or not, sending a kite means trusting that other people will bear it farther along till it reaches its destination.

On the show, we pass messages through the prison walls. Our program features news and commentary that is relevant to prisoners, but difficult for them to access on the inside. This is your chance to send a message and develop important skills in broadcast radio, organizing, and social inquiry.
